On March 19th, the Engage4BIONetherlands Hub had the pleasure of attending an inspiring event focused on accelerating the transition to a local circular economy. Hosted at Rozet, a center for language, art, and heritage, this event brought together a diverse group of stakeholders committed to sustainability and regional collaboration.
The event featured a series of engaging presentations, including those from WUR and ArtEz Fossil Free Wardrobe, Engage4Bio’s Pop Expo, and Textiles Surgery— interactive, non-formal learning activities developed for the project activities. Participants had the opportunity to explore innovative solutions and discuss ways to foster collaboration at the regional level. A panel discussion further enriched the conversation, diving into strategies for scaling circular practices in the textile industry.
The pop-up expo presented by Engage4Bio showcased the journey from natural to synthetic textiles, sparking discussions about how to make the shift to more sustainable materials. By the end of the afternoon, a sense of community and shared purpose emerged. Organizations connected, and the first plans for concrete collaboration were set in motion. Participants are eager to continue this momentum in the coming months, with more updates on these collaborations soon to follow.
The event was organized by Stichting Fibershed Nederland as part of the #ToekomstTextiel initiative, in collaboration with Wageningen University & Research and ArtEZ University of the Arts, and was held as part of the 10th edition of the Week of the Circular Economy.
Special thanks to all those who made the event a success: Remco Kranendonk, Noël Josemans, Paulien Harmsen, Harriëtte Bos, Studio Tjeerd Veenhoven, Evert Ebben-Burggrave, Pleun Mekkering, Marloes Gerritsen, Caroline Verweij-van den Bos, Eva van der Nat, and Margreeth Broens.
