Did you know that the design phase of a product can influence up to 80% of its subsequent environmental impact? Every decision made during the design phase – from the choice of materials to the manufacturing processes – is crucial for the sustainability of a product.

A key goal is to replace fossil-based raw materials with bio-based alternatives in order to make products more sustainable right from the design phase. However, this often poses a major challenge for the economy, as many product parts cannot be dismantled, which makes repair, recycling and reprocessing more difficult. To achieve a circular economy, new business models and actors, such as recovery managers, are needed.

These and other findings on the bioeconomy, wood as a sustainable material, circular design and innovative business models were presented as part of the Bioeconomy WIFI training course. The event provided participants with valuable insights and practical approaches to implementing sustainable principles in the economy.

We would like to thank all participants for their commitment and the speakers for their interesting and interactive contributions.
